Sharks fans doze off late in Game 3

A one-goal deficit in the first Stanley Cup Final home game in franchise history wasn't enough to keep several San Jose Sharks fans from falling asleep.

The tweet is a bit deceiving, because it was shared after Joel Ward's tying goal, but as you can see, the montage was aired about four minutes into the third period, or about four minutes before Ward registered the equalizer.

Either way, no one can blame the baby for taking a mid-game nap.

Watch: Joel Ward slaps in another clutch goal

Down a goal mid-way through the third, the San Jose Sharks almost let a four-minute power play go to waste before Joel Ward saved the day in the final second of his team's man advantage.

Ward walked into the Pittsburgh Penguins' zone and wired a slap shot past Matt Murray to score his seventh of the postseason.

Report: Cap could dip below $70M should players not use escalator

The NHL has apparently given its players fair warning.

Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday that the NHL informed the NHLPA this week that next season's salary cap could dip below $70 million should the players not exercise the escalator clause built into the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The escalator was designed to have the cap rise five percent every year - something that would ordinarily be in the players' best interest. But current economic factors, like the revenue downturn and weak Canadian dollar, may impact escrow in a manner that might ultimately cost the players, should they vote in favor.

That said, and regardless of whether or not the proviso was a scare tactic, the threat of the salary parameters sinking below $70 million might be motivation enough for the players to vote in the five-percent escalator - especially the ones entering free agency.

The salary cap for the 2015-16 season was $71.4 million.

Watch: Penguins’ Hornqvist deflects Lovejoy wrister to retake lead

A Ben Lovejoy point shot gave the Pittsburgh Penguins an early Game 3 lead during the first period, and another helped his team reclaim its one-goal advantage before the end of the second.

With less than a minute remaining in the middle frame, Lovejoy's long wrister was tipped in front by Patric Hornqvist, sneaking under the right arm of Martin Jones to put the Penguins up 2-1 over the Sharks heading into the third.

Watch: Matt Murray gets ‘controller disconnected’ treatment

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray barely moved on Justin Braun's first-period goal in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final against the San Jose Sharks, so what happened next was inevitable.

Thanks to the fine work of SB Nation video editor @Nick_Pants, Murray fell victim to the classic "controller disconnected" gag.

Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports implied shortly after that most older video games featured CPU-controlled goalies - thereby killing the joke - but online team play allows for user-controlled netminders, so, in our opinion, the gag still works.

Clearly, no player is immune, as both Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin have earned their own "controller disconnected" GIFs in the past.

Watch: Braun scores in consecutive games for 1st time ever

Justin Braun has gotten hot at the right time. Well, really, the first time.

The San Jose Sharks defenseman scored in consecutive games for the first time in his career Saturday in the first period of Game 3, sending a seeing-eye wrist shot through traffic that evaded multiple bodies before it landed in behind Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray.

Braun has now scored San Jose's last two goals, and provided 50 percent of the team's total offense through seven-plus periods in the Stanley Cup Final.

He has 16 goals in the regular season and playoffs combined for a career that spans six seasons, and includes more than 400 games.

Marshawn Lynch opens Sharks’ doors ahead of Game 3

Marshawn Lynch continues to be an active participant in the Bay Area, opening the door for the San Jose Sharks ahead of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Donning a custom "Beast Mode" Sharks home jersey, Lynch wished the team well before they hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Per tradition, the Sharks appoint a celebrity to open the door for the team before they take the ice.

Previous openers include Metallica guitarist James Hetfield, former San Francisco 49ers safety Ronnie Lott, rapper E-40, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Lynch has been all over the Bay Area sports scene, hanging out with MC Hammer during Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
