"I have heard nothing but great things about the players and organization," Hall said after the deal. "I am excited to join a team that has a lot of potential.
"Hopefully, a change of scenery is positive for me."
Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli said Hall was "very disappointed" to learn of the trade. He was hoping to be part of the solution in Edmonton.
"Taylor is a dynamic player with speed and youth that changes the complexion of our team," said Devils general manager Ray Shero. "We feel he fits into the direction we wanted to go a year ago which is that fast, supportive and attacking style."
Another person excited about the deal is Adam Henrique, who played junior hockey with Hall in Windsor.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will re-sign center Steven Stamkos to an eight-year, $68 million contract. SPECTOR’S NOTE: The annual average salary is $8.5 million, considerably less than what Stamkos could’ve received on the open market. It’s believed the Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabres were prepared to offer up over $10 million per season on […]
The Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens shocked the hockey world by swapping P.K. Subban for Shea Weber. And while Nashville fans may be foaming at the mouth over their newest acquisition, it's clear, the Montreal faithful don't share that same sentiment.
The trade was such a blow that loyal fans appear to be intent on abandoning ship.
Unfortunately for the fan base, Wednesday's trade doesn't mark the first time a potential superstar has been dealt.
Of course, the club's front office is receiving nearly all the blame.
While the emotions felt in Montreal are summed up near perfectly here.
Anger clearly is part of the grieving process.
The Subban trade - combined with Taylor Hall being dealt to New Jersey and news Steven Stamkos is staying in Tampa Bay - pretty much sums up the hockey world in general.
From the bleu, blanc, et rouge to yellow and blue.
It's summertime in Music City, but the folks in Nashville are thinking hockey after Wednesday's blockbuster trade that saw the Predators trade captain Shea Weber to the Montreal Canadiens for P.K. Subban in a one-for-one swap.
Two people familiar with the decision have confirmed to The Associated Press that Lightning captain Steven Stamkos is staying put in Tampa Bay.
The people spoke on the condition of anonymity on Wednesday because the Lightning have not announc...
Hall has established himself as a premier goal scorer in the NHL when healthy, having averaged 0.35 goals per game over six seasons since being made the No. 1 pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He's posted 328 career points in 381 games. He's a career minus-27 but most of the damage came from his minus-15 2013-14 season. He's registered 3.26 shots on goal per game over his career.
Most of his production has come at even strength, with only 39 of his career goals and 81 of his points having come on the power play. His individual points percentage of 84.2 percent at 5-on-5 last season ranked sixth among all skaters with at least 1,000 minutes played.
Hall in Re-Draft Leagues
Hall's value takes a dip, even with a move away from the lowly Oilers. Hall played primarily with C Leon Draisaitl and RW Teddy Purcell in 2015-16. He'll now join a Devils team, where the most common first-line trio was made up of C Adam Henrique and Ws Travis Zajac and Kyle Palmieri.
He'll take a slight hit from his status as a top-five winger entering 2016-17 re-draft fantasy leagues, but he can still be considered a top-10 player at the position. Edmonton tied for 25th with 2.43 goals for per game last year, while New Jersey ranked last in the league at 2.22 goals per game.
Hall will notice an improvement in peripheral stats such as plus/minus due to New Jersey's superior defensive system, but players like Hall are being drafted solely for goals and points.
Hall in Keeper Leagues
Hall's long-term outlook can be considered fairly similar, though he may take a slight hit in the short term, with the Oilers rebuild having had a head start on that of the Devils. Hall will have a worse supporting cast in New Jersey, limiting his potential for both goals and assists.
At 24 years old his best days are still ahead of him, and he remains a marquee talent, but his supporting cast will likely hold him back for the next couple of seasons.
Larsson to the Oilers
With nine goals, 60 assists and 69 points in 274 career games, Larsson is only a fantasy option in the deepest of leagues. He's a career plus-13, but his best year was 2015-16 with a rating of plus-15, hardly notable enough to improve a fantasy team. He's registered just one shot on goal per game for his career, and has no power-play goals with just four power-play assists.
Edmonton's forward depth also takes a hit, as they trade their top offensive option. Look for RW Benoit Pouliot or LW Nail Yakupov to move into a full-time top-six role, barring a free-agent acquisition. Both are only options later in deep-league drafts.
