NEW YORK - Claude Giroux scored at 3:20 of overtime as the Philadelphia Flyers rallied to beat the Islanders 3-2 Sunday night to end New York's three-game winning streak.

Giroux's 11th goal of the season came on pass from defenseman Shayne Gostibehere from behind the net, giving the Flyers a much-needed win after trailing 2-0. Philadelphia was 3-9-3 in its previous 15 since a 10-game winning streak.

Wayne Simmonds scored late in the second period to pull the Flyers within one and Ivan Provorov tied it early in the third. Steve Mason finished with 36 saves.

Nick Leddy and Alan Quine scored for New York, and Thomas Greiss stopped 44 shots.

Before Giroux's winner, Greiss denied Provorov on a point-blank attempt. Mason matched that save, denying John Tavares on a breakaway after Jason Chimera fed him the puck.

The Islanders had two power-play chances midway through the third period without converting. The Flyers had their chance with the man advantage when Cal Clutterbuck was called for tripping with 2:53 left but also failed to score.

The Flyers held a 42-34 shots advantage heading into overtime.

Leddy opened the scoring with 6:35 to go in the first period, snaring a loose puck that had squirted free after a scramble in front of the Flyers net and firing the puck over a fallen Mason.

Tavares rushed in on Mason but neither he nor linemates Josh Bailey or Anders Lee could beat Mason before the puck found its way out to Leddy, who scored his eighth.

The Flyers outshot the Islanders 15-8 in the first but Greiss continued his strong play, stopping all Flyers attempts. The Islanders' starting goalie since Jaroslav Halak was sent to AHL Bridgeport three weeks ago, Greiss continued his stellar play in the second with another 18 saves.

Quine made it 2-0 at 4:47 of the second, flipping the puck over Mason for his fourth goal of the season.

Simmonds finally broke through for the Flyers with 5:50 left in the second period to narrow the deficit to 2-1. The goal ended Greiss' shutout streak at 154:10 following shutout wins at Boston last Monday and at home against Dallas last Thursday night.

Simmonds' goal was his team-leading 19th this season.

Provorov tied it at 1:47 of the third on a dazzling solo effort around the Islanders' defense before beating Greiss for his fourth.

With both teams playing the second game of weekend back-to-backs, the Islanders had more jump early. But the Flyers seemed to find their legs once Simmonds scored late in the second and into the third period.

New York had won two straight games since Doug Weight replaced Jack Capuano as coach last Tuesday. They beat Dallas 3-0 on Thursday and stopped the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 on Saturday. They also won 3-0 at Boston last Monday in Capuano's last game.

Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck returned after three-game absence with an undisclosed injury while defenseman Johnny Boychuk also returned after missing two games. Forward Andrew Ladd missed his fourth straight game with an upper body injury.

CALGARY, Alberta - Jordan Eberle had two goals and two assists, Laurent Brossoit stopped 38 shots for his first NHL win and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Calgary Flames 7-3 on Saturday night to sweep the four-game season series for the first time.

Eberle's wrist shot at 5:58 of the first period made it 3-0 and prompted Flames coach Glen Gulutzan to swap Brian Elliott in goal for Chad Johnson, who allowed three goals on four shots.

The Oilers kept capitalizing on Calgary's mistakes in the second period. After Connor McDavid's power-play goal at 3:57, Eberle scored again at 12:24, making it 5-0 when he was left open in the slot to deflect in Matt Benning's pass.

Eberle has three goals in his last three games after ending an 18-game goalless drought.

Anton Slepyshev, Mark Letestu, Oscar Klefbom and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for Edmonton. The streaking Oilers are 5-0-1 in their last six.

Sean Monahan extended his goal-scoring streak to five games and Matthew Tkachuk and Lance Bouma also scored for Calgary.

Brossoit won in his seventh career start. He was a Flames sixth-round draft pick in 2011 that was part of the November 2013 trade in which Calgary acquired defenseman Ladislav Smid.

Elliott made 23 saves in relief, getting tagged with the loss to fall to 8-11-2.

Slow starts have been a trend for Calgary lately and that chronic issue continued as the Flames yielded the opening goal for a seventh straight game.

At 1:17, Drake Caggiula won a faceoff back to Slepyshev, who quickly buried his third goal past Johnson.

Edmonton made it 2-0 when Zack Kassian zipped a pass through the slot that Letestu one-timed past Johnson. Eberle's goal came 36 seconds later and was the result of a poor defensive play by Jyrki Jokipakka, who left Eberle with a clear path to the net off the wing.

Tkachuk's deflection on a power play at 15:55 of the second finally got Calgary on the scoreboard, but Edmonton answered back with a power-play goal of its own 58 seconds later. Klefbom's slap shot from the blue line bounced crazily off the ice in the slot and eluded Elliott.

NEW YORK - John Tavares narrowly missed out on his second hat trick in a week, Thomas Greiss got his second straight shutout and the New York Islanders beat the Dallas Stars 3-0 on Thursday night in their first game since firing longtime coach Jack Capuano.

New York canned Capuano in the middle of his seventh season Tuesday, replacing him on an interim basis with Doug Weight.

Tavares has seven goals in four games after scoring twice and then having an empty-net shot just deflected wide late in the third period. He had three goals last Friday at Florida.

Greiss stopped 23 shots after making 32 saves in a 4-0 win over Boston on Monday.

Calvin de Haan added an empty-net goal on a coast-to-coast shot with four seconds left.

Kari Lehtonen made 33 saves for Dallas, which was coming off a 7-6 victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night, but dropped to 3-12-4 in games following a victory this season.

Tavares got his 17th goal with 6:29 left in the first period. After taking a pass from Anders Lee, the All-Star slid the puck behind John Klingberg while cutting in front of the Dallas defenseman, met the puck on the other side of Klingberg and smacked it past Lehtonen for a 1-0 lead.

Tavares also scored on a short-handed breakaway with 3:06 left in the game, going to the forehand to beat Lehtonen with a low shot. Dallas entered trailing Philadelphia by one for the league lead in short-handed goals allowed.

Weight was an assistant GM and coach with New York before his promotion this week. The last-place Islanders entered Thursday eight points shy of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, though they have games in hand on nearly the entire league.

Weight said Wednesday that he doesn't plan to ''reinvent the wheel'' as interim coach, but said New York was ''going to tweak some things in certain systems.''

The power play is one obvious area that needs improvement, with New York entering Thursday ranked 28th in the league. The Isles had a dangerous first man-advantage Thursday, getting four shots on Lehtonen during Adam Cracknell's hooking minor in the first period.

Weight got creative after that, with less encouraging results. New York shuffled the unit during a trio of second-period power plays, even keeping Tavares on the bench for long stretches.

Lehtonen's breakaway saves kept it close. He denied Tavares on a rising wrist shot in the first period, then stopped Shane Prince's sweeping deke with a sliding leg save.

NOTES: Tavares was recognized during the first period for getting his 500th NHL point last week at Florida. ... New York F Josh Bailey played his 600th NHL game. ... Islanders D Johnny Boychuk sat out because of an upper-body injury. He played Monday night against the Bruins, but also missed the previous game. Dallas Ds Johnny Oduya and Jamie Oleksiak were scratched with injuries. Oduya aggravated an ankle injury against the Rangers, and Oleksiak is dealing with an upper-body issue. ... UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes was at the game with her title belt. Nunes knocked out MMA superstar Ronda Rousey for the championship on Dec. 30.

DENVER - Vinnie Hinostroza scored twice in the third period, including the go-ahead goal with 11:49 remaining, and the Chicago Blackhawks rallied for a 6-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night.

Tanner Kero had two goals and Nick Schmaltz and Brent Seabrook also scored for Chicago, which snapped a two-game skid.

The Blackhawks switched around their line combinations, breaking up the Jonathan Toews-Marian Hossa tandem in an effort to spark the offense. It certainly worked with Hinostroza, Kero and Hossa combining for eight points. Hossa had three assists.

Matt Duchene had two goals and Blake Comeau and Matt Nieto also scored for the last-place Avalanche, who wrapped up a four-game homestand with a 1-3 mark. This game felt more like a road game, though, with all the Blackhawk fans in attendance.

The loudest cheer of the night came when Hinostroza scored the game-winner by tapping a shot past Semyon Varlamov.

Colorado pulled Varlamov with around 35 seconds remaining, but couldn't get anything past Corey Crawford. Kero added an empty-netter with 10.6 seconds left.

Hinostroza tied the game at 4 early in the third period when he took a long pass from Seabrook and skated in all alone, lifting a wrist shot over Varlamov.

The 22-year-old Hinostroza entered with four career goals.

There were a combined four goals scored in a frenzied second period, with Colorado taking a 3-2 lead on Nieto's first goal of the season. The advantage lasted all of 19 seconds as Kero answered.

On the play, Hossa had his first assist of the night to give him 600 for his career. He's the 32nd player in NHL history to record 500 goals and 600 assists.

In the first period, Duchene scored a rare power-play goal for the Avalanche. They were 2 of 41 on the man advantage over the last 11 games before Duchene tipped Nathan MacKinnon's shot past Crawford.

Given how far they're fallen, the Avalanche could soon be looking at a possible shake-up. Duchene, the team's leading goal scorer, captain Gabriel Landeskog and defenseman Tyson Barrie have been frequently mentioned in trade rumors. The trio are part of the core that general manager Joe Sakic has been trying to build around for the last few seasons.

''I believe in the guys we have in this room,'' Barrie said. ''It's about learning, but you can only say that for so long.

''It would be a lot of fun to win with these guys. I don't think we're too far off.''

ST. LOUIS - Mike Hoffman and Mark Stone each scored twice to lead the Ottawa Senators over the St. Louis Blues 6-4 on Tuesday night.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Bobby Ryan also scored for the Senators, who won their fourth straight at Scottrade Center for the first time in team history. Mike Condon made 19 saves.

Paul Stastny, Kevin Shattenkirk, Alexander Steen and Patrik Berglund scored for the Blues, who had their two-game winning streak snapped. Carter Hutton made 18 saves.

Stone's third goal in four games at the 2:35 mark of the third period was the winner. Exactly a minute after Steen tied it, Stone stole Jaden Schwartz's pass to score his 14th goal of the season, giving the Senators a 4-3 lead.

Hoffman's goal at 13:53, his 14th of the season, gave the Senators insurance. Stone added an empty-netter.

Pageau scored his first goal in 15 games to give the Senators a 1-0 lead at the 3:03 mark of the first period.

It was the seventh consecutive time the Blues surrendered the first goal on home ice.

Stastny evened it with a power-play goal midway through the first. Stastny has seven points, including four goals, in his last seven games.

Hoffman regained the lead for the Senators with a power-play goal with 6:34 left in the second period. Hoffman scored his third goal in his last four games after Kyle Turris' shot went off Robert Bortuzzo and deflected right to his stick.

Ryan made it 3-1 Senators 85 seconds later. Hutton thought he had Ryan Dzingel's shot covered with his pad, but the whistle never blew and Ryan banged the rebound into the net.

It was Ryan's 18th goal and 32nd point in 25 career games against the Blues.

Shattenkirk scored with 46 seconds left in the second to cut Ottawa's lead to 3-2. Shattenkirk extended his points streak against the Senators to four games.

Steen scored the Blues' second power-play goal of the game to tie it 3-3 at the 1:35 mark of the third period.

WASHINGTON - Justin Williams and Matt Niskanen each scored two goals and Philipp Grubauer stopped all 24 shots he faced and the Washington Capitals extended their winning streak to nine in authoritative fashion by crushing the Philadelphia Flyers 5-0 on Sunday.

The Capitals lead the NHL with 63 points.

Despite a sluggish start, the Capitals came alive with four goals on seven shots in the first seven minutes of the third period to turn the game into a laugher.

Washington has outscored its opponents 40-11 during the streak and passed the Columbus Blue Jackets for first place in the Metropolitan Division, Eastern Conference, and the league.

Andre Burakovsky also scored a power-play goal for the Capitals, who haven't allowed an even-strength goal in six games.

OTTAWA, Ontario - Nazem Kadri scored twice and Curtis McElhinney made 35 saves, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs past the Ottawa Senators 4-2 on Saturday night.

It was McElhinney's first start with the Leafs after being picked up off waivers earlier in the week from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Tyler Bozak and Connor Brown also scored for the Maple Leafs, who moved into a tie with the Senators for third in the Atlantic Division at the halfway point of the season.

Dion Phaneuf and Kyle Turris had goals for Ottawa, and Mike Condon made 23 saves.

Kadri's second goal of the game gave the Leafs a 3-2 lead just 2:31 into the third period.

The Senators got their first power play of the game when Frederik Gauthier went off for tripping at 4:01. Ottawa looked to have the equalizer, but McElhinney made a sprawling save to deny Mike Hoffman on his one-timer.

Minutes later, Erik Karlsson hit the post behind McElhinney and, within seconds of that, Brown gave the Leafs a 4-2 lead with a quick shot after Auston Matthews won a faceoff in Ottawa's zone.

The teams were tied at two through 40 minutes after the Leafs had jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Kadri opened the scoring on the power play when he tucked a rebound underneath Condon at 6:26 of the opening period.

Bozak gave the Leafs a 2-0 advantage just 1:07 into the second when he intercepted a clearing attempt from Bobby Ryan, moved in on the Ottawa goal and waited for Condon to make a move before beating the netminder.

The Leafs were carrying the momentum through the period, but that changed when Phaneuf got the Senators on the board at 9:15 of the second. His point shot hit Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner before eluding McElhinney.

The Senators tied it at 18:50 when Turris beat McElhinney with a shot far side to the top corner.

NOTES: Fredrik Claesson was scratched for Ottawa. Josh Leivo and Garret Sparks were scratches for the Maple Leafs. ... Chris Wideman became the 100th player to play in 100 games for the Senators when he suited up against the Leafs. It was also the 100th game of his NHL career. ... RALEIGH, N.C. - Brock McGinn had a goal and three assists, linemates Jordan Staal and Elias Lindholm each had a goal and two assists and the Carolina Hurricanes pulled away late to beat the New York Islanders 7-4 on Saturday night for their fourth straight victory.

The Hurricanes overcame a 3-1 deficit with three straight goals in the second period and improved to 14-1-1 in their last 16 home games.

Carolina scored three more times in the third to make it a rout, including Lee Stempniak's goal 5:42 into the final period that broke a 4-4 tie.

McGinn has scored in three straight games and has seven points overall in that span.

Justin Faulk, Brett Pesce and Teuvo Teravainen also scored for Carolina. Cam Ward made 28 saves.

John Tavares scored twice for the Islanders a night after recording a hat trick against the Panthers. Thomas Greiss gave up all seven goals on 43 shots before being pulled.

Carolina outshot New York 45-32.

The Islanders appeared in control early. Tavares and Anders Lee scored in the first period, and Jason Chimera made it 3-1 early in the second when he came streaking down the middle uncovered and buried a slick pass from Anthony Beauvillier in the left corner.

Then Lindholm, McGinn and the rest of the `Canes jumped into gear, with a kick start from the Islanders defense.

Shortly after Chimera's goal, Faulk unleased a wrist shot from the faceoff circle that was saved by Greiss, but Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield inadvertently kicked the rebound through Greiss' legs and into the net.

The miscue in their favor got the Hurricanes rolling, and they took off from there.

McGinn and Lindholm teamed up to tie it with a brilliant rush down the ice, with McGinn dishing a perfect cross-ice pass for Lindholm to bury past Greiss along the far post with 11:02 left in the second.

Pesce gave the Hurricanes their first lead after another quick rush up ice. Pesce outskated defenseman Thomas Hickey to get behind him at the net and then redirected McGinn's saucer pass on the move along the far post.

Tavares briefly pulled the Islanders back into a tie, but Stempniak collected the loose puck off a faceoff in the right circle and fired a pristine wrist shot just under the crossbar over Greiss' shoulder to give Carolina the lead one final time.

NOTES: Teravainen and Staal closed out the scoring for Carolina. ... It was McGinn's first career four-point game. ... Lindholm has five points in his last three games since returning from an upper-body injury. ... Staal has points in four straight games and Faulk in three straight. ... The Hurricanes improved to 5-0-0 this season when wearing their black alternate home jerseys. ... Tavares appeared to have a hat trick for the second straight night, but his second goal was credited instead to Lee after multiple revisions. ... There were no penalties called in the game.

Brad Marchand had two goals and three assists to lift the Boston Bruins to a 6-3 win over the slumping Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.

The win improved Boston's record to .500 at home (10-10) in its first game of a stretch of five of seven at TD Garden heading into the All-Star break at the end of the month.

Tuukka Rask was back in goal for Boston after leaving the previous game - a loss at Nashville on Thursday - because he was hit in the throat area by a shot in the opening period. He made 21 saves.

The Flyers lost for the eighth time in 10 games (2-6-2).

Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, Torey Krug, and David Krejci also scored for the Bruins. Krejci's was his 500th point.

Marchand had an empty-net goal with 54 seconds left.

Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller was helped off the ice with what the team called an upper-body injury after he crashed into the backboards hard following a check by Jakub Voracek, who was given a major for boarding.

Wayne Simmonds, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, and Brayden Schenn had Philadelphia's goals. Michal Neuvirth stopped 33 shots.

Playing in his 500th game, Marchand stole the puck from Sean Couturier near the blue line in the defensive zone and skated in while being hooked by defenseman Ivan Provorov. The puck slid off Marchand's stick for a short-handed goal and under Neuvirth, tying the game 1-1 at 7:48 of the first period.

Krejci fired a wrist shot into the top far corner of the net from left wing to move Boston ahead for good two minutes into the second. Austin Czarnik jumped to keep the puck in at the point before sending a cross-ice pass to Krejci for his power-play score.

Krug scored four minutes later when he redirected Marchand's cross-ice pass from the edge of the slot.

The Flyers cut it to 3-2 on Schenn's goal five seconds into a power play before Marchand set up Bergeron for a power-play goal at 13:04.

Chara one-timed David Pastrnak's pass by Neuvirth to make it 5-2. Marchand made a drop pass to Pastrnak, setting up the play.

Simmonds' goal came with 3.2 seconds left in the second. The Flyers were skating with a two-man advantage.

NOTES: Flyers D Mark Streit was activated off long-term injury before the game and F Boyd Gordon was waived. Streit was rehabbing a sprained left shoulder and missed 13 games. . It was the second of three games between the teams this season. Philadelphia won the first, 3-2 in a shootout at home on Nov. 29.

Jay Beagle scored twice to lead a balanced blowout for the Washington Capitals as they won their eighth consecutive game, beating the Chicago Blackhawks 6-0 on Friday night in a matchup of the NHL's hottest teams.

Nicklas Backstrom, Brett Connolly, Tom Wilson and T.J. Oshie also scored for Washington, which snapped Chicago's winning streak at four.

The Capitals have ended five different opposing win streaks of three games or more already in 2017 while playing their best hockey of the season.

Braden Holtby stopped all 24 shots he faced and got the benefit of goaltender interference on Vinnie Hinostroza's would-be goal for his fifth shutout in the past 14 games. The Vezina Trophy winner is 9-2-2 with a 1.34 goals-against average and .950 save percentage over that time.

The Capitals tilted the ice against the Blackhawks, outshooting them 14-5 in a three-goal first period and dominating throughout, even when Chicago was on the power play. Blackhawks All-Star goaltender Corey Crawford allowed five goals on 30 shots before giving way to Scott Darling.

Beagle continued his own personal run of success against Chicago, opening and closing the scoring to reach eight goals on the season. The fourth-line center has four goals in two games against the Blackhawks this season and six in eight career games against them.

Three of his four multi-goal games have come against Chicago.

Alex Ovechkin contributed career point No. 1,002 with a secondary assist on Backstrom's goal. Backstrom, who assisted on Oshie's third-period goal, has scored in three games in a row.

It's no coincidence that Holtby, Ovechkin and Backstrom are rolling as Washington is on its longest winning streak of the season. Holtby hasn't allowed a 5-on-5 goal in five games as the Capitals climbed past the Blue Jackets, who were in action at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night.

NOTES: D Karl Alzner became the first player in Capitals franchise history to play 500 consecutive regular-season games. Alzner joined Keith Yandle and Jay Bouwmeester as the only defensemen since 1943-44 to play 500 games in a row. Baseball ironman Cal Ripken Jr. was featured in a video message congratulating Alzner on the achievement. ... Washington improved to 23-3-3 when scoring first. ...
