Home sweet home, at last.

The New York Islanders won their first game at the UBS Arena in their eighth attempt on Saturday, topping the New Jersey Devils 4-2.

The Isles began the season on a 13-game road trip as the finishing touches on their new building were still being completed. The club entered Saturday with an 0-5-2 record at home this campaign.

New York's seven-game winless streak at UBS Arena had been the longest stretch to open a new arena in NHL history, according to The Associated Press.

The crowd erupted at the sound of the final horn.

Islanders head coach Barry Trotz credited the fans for the victory.

"I'll give the fans credit for the win because they stuck with us through the whole game, they stuck with us through the last six or seven games," Trotz said postgame.

"I was sitting in the office here, and you could hear the thunder of the fans in the locker room, in the coaches room - that's fantastic. That's why the Islanders fans are special - they really are."

Zach Parise played the role of hero, scoring a game-winning, shorthanded goal for his first tally with New York after signing as a free agent in the offseason.

Mathew Barzal, Oliver Wahlstrom, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau also led the way offensively, contributing two points each. Barzal is now riding a six-game point streak after a slow start to the year.

Ilya Sorokin was stellar between the pipes, stopping 30 of 32 shots.
