Canadiens’ Alzner makes season debut after 5 straight healthy scratches

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Karl Alzner made his season debut Wednesday against the St. Louis Blues after he was a healthy scratch for the first five games of the season.

Alzner saw his 622-game iron-man streak come to a surprising end when he was held out of the lineup for the season opener. The steady blue-liner signed a five-year, $23.125-million contract with the Habs in July 2017 after nine seasons with the Washington Capitals.

Victor Mete is the odd man out on Montreal's blue line Wednesday against the Blues.
