Frederik Andersen's night ended early on Wednesday, as the Toronto Maple Leafs netminder was forced out of the game versus the Dallas Stars due to an upper-body injury.
The Maple Leafs later announced that Andersen would not return to the game.
Backup goaltender Curtis McElhinney entered in place of Andersen. In 13 appearances this season, McElhinney has posted a 7-4-1 record and a .931 save percentage.
Following the 6-5 win, Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock was optimistic about Andersen's injury status and maintained the club will stick with its original plan to start McElhinney on Thursday when the Maple Leafs head to Buffalo to take on the Sabres.
