Vanek records career-high 4 assists in Panthers’ laugher over Maple Leafs

Have a night, Thomas Vanek.

The Florida Panthers' trade-deadline acquisition recorded four assists in a game for the first time in his career as the Cats beat up on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

It was a 7-2 final, moving the Panthers to within five points of Toronto in the East. It was a must-win game for Florida, and it went out and took care of business. The Panthers are now six points back of the New York Islanders, who will go to bed Tuesday in the second wild-card spot in the conference. Florida's got one game in hand.

Back to Vanek. It hasn't been all beaches and sunshine since he arrived in Sunrise, as the 33-year-old had only a goal to show for his first five games with his new team. But a four-point night in arguably Florida's most important game of the season will gain the winger some fans, for sure.

It's the eighth time in Vanek's career he's registered four-or-more points in a game, according to Hockey Reference.
