A little time away from home may have been exactly what the St. Louis Blues needed.
Only two games into Mike Yeo's tenure as head coach, the Blues were presented with a five-game road trip that could've either boosted or sunk their chances of getting back into the thick of the Western Conference playoff race.
The end result was, in a word, perfect.
Here's a look at how the road trip played out:
Date | Opponent | Result | Goalie |
---|---|---|---|
Feb. 6 | Flyers | W 2-0 | Hutton |
Feb. 7 | Senators | W 6-0 | Allen |
Feb. 9 | Maple Leafs | W 2-1 OT | Allen |
Feb. 11 | Canadiens | W 4-2 | Allen |
Feb. 15 | Red Wings | W 2-0 | Hutton |
The 10 points gives the Blues 65 through 57 games, good for third in the Central Division. St. Louis also boasts a .570 point percentage, which puts them sixth in the Western Conference and 12th overall.
A playoff spot, then, is much more secure now than when the road trip began.
The Blues will be right back at it Thursday against Vancouver, but in the friendly confines of Scottrade Center.
