Gerard Gallant wants to set the record straight.
The recently fired head coach was in touch with Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman about photos that went viral of Gallant waiting for and getting into a taxi after Florida dismissed him Sunday night in Raleigh, N.C.
Gallant said the following in a text message to Friedman:
I know everyone has seen the photos of me getting into the cab. (Panthers manager of team services) Stiles Burr is a good, solid kid. What happened is getting blown out of proportion. They called a car service, but I did not want to wait.
Gallant will be paid by the Panthers for another two years, and the smart money has him pegged as the first head coach of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights, who will enter the NHL next season.
