It was only a matter of time for Nicklas Backstrom.
The Washington Capitals center scored his first goal of the season in style Thursday night, pouncing on a rebound and flicking a backhand shot past Winnipeg Jets goaltender Michael Hutchinson while facing the other direction.
Backstrom was held without a goal in the first nine games of the season, but he entered Thursday's contest with five assists - three of which coming on the power play.
