Babcock: Maple Leafs not ready to appoint new captain

The Toronto Maple Leafs remain in "wait and C" mode.

Head coach Mike Babcock has confirmed the team will not be naming a new captain before the puck drops on a new season.

The team has been without a captain since Dion Phaneuf was traded to Ottawa last season, and will remain so pending the emergence of a clear-cut leader either from the group of assembled young talent or in the form of an experienced veteran.

For now, four alternate captains are listed on the roster: Tyler Bozak, Leo Komarov, Matt Hunwick, and Morgan Rielly.
