The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Carolina Hurricanes are closing in on a trade that would send Jake Guentzel to Raleigh for a package including winger Michael Bunting, reports TSN's Pierre LeBrun.
Guentzel, who boasts two 40-goal seasons, is considered the best player available ahead Friday's 3 p.m. deadline.
The 29-year-old winger is a pending unrestricted free agent carrying a $6-million cap hit.
Guentzel has proven to be a clutch performer come playoff time. He's tallied 34 goals and 24 assists in 58 career postseason contests and helped Pittsburgh win the Stanley Cup in 2017.
