Predators’ Duchene week-to-week with apparent hand injury

As the Nashville Predators battle for a playoff spot, it appears they'll have to do so without forward Matt Duchene for at least the next little while.

Following Sunday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Predators head coach John Hynes announced Duchene is considered week-to-week after suffering an upper-body injury during the 3-2 loss, according to John Glennon of NHL.com.

Duchene exited the game in the second period after taking teammate Dante Fabbro's shot off his hand while in front of the Leafs' net. He was immediately taken back to the dressing room and didn't return to the game.

Nashville is now five points out of the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 10 games left to play. The Predators have two games in hand on the Winnipeg Jets, who currently hold that last postseason berth.

Duchene has 22 goals and 56 points in 71 games for Nashville this season. He joins a loaded group of Predators dealing with injuries, with the likes of captain Roman Josi, forwards Filip Forsberg and Ryan Johansen, and defenseman Alexandre Carrier already on injured reserve.

Flames sign 2021 1st-rounder Coronato to entry-level deal

The Calgary Flames have signed forward prospect Matthew Coronato to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Sunday.

Coronato recently finished his sophomore season at Harvard, which was eliminated in the first round of the Frozen Four bracket at the hands of Ohio State earlier this week.

Calgary drafted Coronato 13th overall in 2021. The New York native posted 36 points in 34 games in each of his collegiate seasons.

The Flames are currently outside the Western Conference playoff picture with eight games remaining, needing to close a four-point gap to catch the Winnipeg Jets.

Canadiens sign Harvard standout Sean Farrell to 3-year, entry-level deal

The Montreal Canadiens and top forward prospect Sean Farrell agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Sunday.

Farrell will join the Habs on their upcoming trip to take on the Buffalo Sabres on Monday and the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old winger enjoyed a standout campaign for Harvard in 2022-23. He paced the team with 33 assists and 53 points in 34 games while tying Matthew Coronato for the second-most goals on the squad with 20.

In two seasons with the Crimson, Farrell compiled 30 tallies and 81 points across 58 contests. He notched a career-best five-point game at Dartmouth in February.

Harvard's campaign ended with an 8-1 loss to Ohio State on Friday at the NCAA Tournament.

The Canadiens selected Farrell in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Kings’ Lizotte to have hearing for cross-checking Morrissey’s face

Los Angeles Kings forward Blake Lizotte will have a hearing Sunday for cross-checking Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey.

Lizotte was ejected from Saturday's contest after catching Morrissey in the face.

Morrissey was able to return to the game but said he needed 17-18 stitches, according to The Winnipeg News' Mike McIntyre.

"It was a careless play," Morrissey said postgame. "I thought we were going to go, and I took a cross-check to the chin. It could have been my teeth, so thankfully not. "

Jets head coach Rick Bowness also criticized the play.

"It's an uncalled-for cross-check into a guy's face," Bowness said, per The Athletic's Murat Ates. "The league's got to take a really good look at that one."

Boston Bruins forward A.J. Greer was suspended one game Friday for cross-checking Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Hoffman in the face.

Lizotte has never been suspended in his five-year NHL career.
