Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Pezzetta has been suspended two games for an illegal check to the head of Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Monday.

Pezzetta was given a two-minute minor for the hit, which occurred during Washington's 8-4 win Saturday.

Oshie stayed in the game.

Pezzetta's appeared in 47 games for the Canadiens this season, his first in the NHL. The 24-year-old has five goals and three assists while averaging under eight minutes per contest.

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Saturday.

Casey DeSmith will assume starting duties down the stretch run as Pittsburgh jockeys for playoff position in the Metropolitan Division. Entering Saturday's contest, the Penguins sit five points clear of the Washington Capitals for third place but have played two extra games.

DeSmith is 8-4-5 with a .906 save percentage this season.

Jarry bounced back from a miserable playoff showing last spring and put together a career campaign. The 26-year-old has posted a 34-18-6 record with four shutouts along with a .919 save percentage and 19.9 goals saved above average this season.

Carey Price made his season debut at the Bell Centre on Friday night and the raucous Montreal Canadiens fans made sure to shower him with cheers throughout the evening.

The 34-year-old received a thunderous ovation when he was introduced in the pregame lineups.

Fans also packed into the arena early to cheer him on during warmups.

"It was a lot of fun. Obviously, it was heartwarming. Made me feel really wanted," Price said postgame. "It was definitely emotional but I was able to stifle that and stay focused because I wanted to play well tonight."

Price had been sidelined all season long due to offseason knee surgery and subsequent rehab. He also spent a month in the NHL's player assistance program in October.

The Canadiens lost 3-0 to the Islanders on Friday. Price allowed two goals on 19 shots but looked sharp in his first game action in months. Ilya Sorokin posted a 44-save shutout for the Islanders.

With only seven games remaining on their schedule, head coach Martin St. Louis said it's entirely up to Price how much he'll play over that span.

“If Carey wants to play, he’s going to play," St. Louis said, according to The Athletic's Arpon Basu.
