The Buffalo Sabres coughed up a three-goal lead to the Philadelphia Flyers before falling in overtime on Monday night, matching the worst losing streak in NHL history at 18 games.
The 2003-04 Pittsburgh Penguins previously owned the dubious record. Buffalo can set the new bar or stop the bleeding Wednesday in its rematch against Philly.
The Sabres led 3-0 following two periods and completely collapsed in the final frame. After the Flyers cut the deficit to 3-2, Buffalo missed this chance at an empty-net dagger:

The Flyers responded and tied the game with 1:29 remaining. Ivan Provorov then completed the comeback 32 seconds into overtime.

"It's embarrassing. This whole stretch is embarrassing. Any team in the NHL, that's a win. ... That's on players. The 20 guys on the ice. That's brutal," Sabres defenseman Brandon Montour said postgame, according to Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.
The Sabres haven't won since Feb. 23, going 0-15-3 in that span. The NHL's record winless streak (ties included) is 30 games, which the Winnipeg Jets set in 1980-81.
