Blues sign Schenn to 8-year, $52M extension

The St. Louis Blues inked forward Brayden Schenn to an eight-year contract extension with an average annual value of $6.5 million, the team announced Friday.

Schenn is entering the final year of his current deal that carries a $5.12-million annual cap hit. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The 28-year-old tallied 17 goals and 54 points in 72 contests last season and added five goals and 12 points in 26 playoff games to help the Blues capture their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

St. Louis acquired Schenn in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers in June 2017. He's appeared in 588 NHL games, recording 154 career goals and 372 points.

Galchenyuk in lineup for Penguins’ season opener vs. Sabres

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Alex Galchenyuk is in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Buffalo Sabres. He will skate on Pittsburgh's second line with Evgeni Malkin and Brandon Tanev.

Galchenyuk was initially listed as a game-time decision due to a lower-body injury that limited him to just one preseason contest.

Pittsburgh acquired Galchenyuk from the Arizona Coyotes on June 29 as part of the Phil Kessel trade. The 25-year-old tallied 19 goals and 41 points in 72 games for the Coyotes in 2018-19.

Oilers’ Larsson out 6-8 weeks, recall Bouchard

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Adam Larsson will miss six-to-eight weeks with a fractured right fibula, the team revealed Thursday.

In a corresponding move, top defensive prospect Evan Bouchard was recalled, the team also announced Thursday.

Additionally, blue-liner Ethan Bear was assigned to the AHL.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury while blocking a shot in the first period of Wednesday's season opener against the Vancouver Canucks. He logged 22:19 of ice time in the 3-2 win.

Larsson ranked third among Oilers defensemen in ice time in 2018-19, averaging 21:37 per game. He also recorded three goals and 20 points in 82 contests.

Bouchard, 19, registered one goal in seven games for the Oilers last season. Edmonton drafted the 6-foot-3 rearguard with the 10th overall pick in 2018.

Islanders’ Lamoriello: Ho-Sang’s agent asked for trade

New York Islanders prospect Josh Ho-Sang apparently wants out of Long Island.

Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello said Thursday that Ho-Sang's agent asked that his client be traded, according to Newsday's Andrew Gross.

The 23-year-old failed to crack New York's 23-man roster and was placed on and subsequently cleared waivers earlier this week.

Lamoriello said the Islanders told Ho-Sang not to report to AHL affiliate Bridgeport while the team looks to meet his trade request, according to The Athletic's Arthur Staples.

"If there's no trade to be found, Ho-Sang will report to Bridgeport. Once he goes to Bridgeport, he's there," Lamoriello said, per Staples.

Ho-Sang has struggled to carve out a permanent role at the NHL level. The Ontario native has recorded seven goals and 24 points in 53 contests since the Islanders selected him 28th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft.
