Report: Ducks, Montour more than $3M apart ahead of arbitration

Arbitration could be necessary to close the gap between the Anaheim Ducks and defenseman Brandon Montour in contract talks.

The two sides will go before an arbiter Tuesday. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports that Montour's seeking a one-year deal worth $4.75 million, while the Ducks want a two-year pact that pays $1.5 million per season.

The 24-year-old Montour is a restricted free agent coming off a three-year, entry-level contract that carried a $925,000 average annual value.

Ducks general manager Bob Murray said Saturday that the two sides were working toward a two-year extension after failing to agree on a long-term deal.

In 80 appearances last season, Montour tallied nine goals and 32 points, good for second among Anaheim blue-liners.

Report: Kulak wants $1.15M from Flames, who are offering 2-way deal

Brett Kulak and the Calgary Flames reportedly have very different assessments of what the defenseman is worth.

Kulak is asking for a contract worth $1.15 million per season, while the club's offer is a two-way deal worth $650,000 at the NHL level, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The arbitration hearing for the 24-year-old restricted free agent is scheduled for Monday.

Kulak went unclaimed after being placed on waivers Thursday.

He played exclusively at the NHL level this past season, chipping in eight points in 71 games.

Ducks working on 2-year bridge deal for RFA Brandon Montour

The Anaheim Ducks are working on a two-year bridge deal for restricted free-agent defenseman Brandon Montour, as the two sides couldn't work out details for a long-term extension, general manager Bob Murray said, according to The Athletic's Eric Stephens.

Montour and the Ducks have an arbitration hearing set for Tuesday in Toronto, but it's still possible for a deal to be struck before then.

After making his NHL debut in 2016-17, Montour established himself as a key fixture on the Ducks' blue line last season with an impressive campaign. The 24-year-old appeared in 80 contests, registering nine goals and 23 assists while logging over 20 minutes per game.

Montour is one of three RFA's on the Ducks' books currently without a contract, along with wingers Ondrej Kase and Nick Ritchie. Murray will have approximately $8.8 million in cap space to work with to get the trio signed, per CapFriendly.

Report: Wild lock up Dumba with 5-year, $30M deal

The Minnesota Wild re-signed defenseman Matt Dumba to a five-year contract with an average annual value of $6 million, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Dumba is coming off his best season in which he tallied 14 goals and 50 points while suiting up in all 82 games for the Wild. He logged a career-high 23:49 of ice time per contest while recording 136 hits and 112 blocks.

The Wild were eliminated in five games by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs, but Dumba was their best player, assuming the role of No. 1 defenseman with Ryan Suter injured.

According to Corsica's player rating system, Dumba graded as the 34th-best defenseman last season, making him an elite No. 2 rearguard, and he's still just 23 years old.

Dumba was a restricted free agent and was scheduled to have an arbitration hearing on July 23. Forward Jason Zucker now remains the Wild's lone RFA.
