3 players who are going to look really weird in their new jerseys

Change is inevitable.

In today's NHL, it's incredibly rare for a player to remain with one team for the entirety of his career.

There's been no shortage of roster shuffling this summer, providing us with three players in particular who are going to look really weird in their new jerseys.

Marc-Andre Fleury

Let's be honest - it will be odd to see any player take to the ice wearing a Vegas Golden Knights jersey.

There will be many firsts for the NHL's 31st franchise, and it's likely the first win will be earned by Marc-Andre Fleury, who's only ever played for the Pittsburgh Penguins after being selected first overall in 2003.

Here's another look at Pittsburgh's all-time leader in wins (375) and save percentage (.912).

"Flower" has already given a preview of his new mask. Now bring on the skates and full gear.

Patrick Marleau

Drafted second overall in 1997 (after future teammate Joe Thornton), Patrick Marleau basically wrote the San Jose Sharks' record books over the past 19 seasons.

Total Rank
Games 1493 1
Goals 508 1
Assists 574 2
Points 1082 1
Shots 3798 1

While Thornton decided to re-sign with the club with a view to finally getting over that Cup hurdle, Marleau surprisingly went his own way, choosing instead to sign with the upstart Toronto Maple Leafs, who could contend as early as this season.

Marleau recently gave San Jose a peek at his new threads before moving North.

Yeah, that's weird.

Artemi Panarin

We only had two seasons to get used to Artemi Panarin in a Chicago Blackhawks jersey, but he sure put on a show.

The 2015-16 NHL rookie of the year regularly made magic with frequent linemate Patrick Kane. In 162 games with the club, Panarin scored 61 goals and added 90 assists, and only six players around the NHL recorded more points over that time: Kane, Sidney Crosby, Jamie Benn, Nicklas Backstrom, Erik Karlsson, and Blake Wheeler.

Traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in order to bring Brandon Saad back to Chicago, Panarin seems pumped to switch his jersey number from 72 to 9, with the former worn by Sergei Bobrovsky.

First impressions are hard to shake, and seeing Panarin in Columbus blue will take some getting used to.

NHL world reacts to Mayweather-McGregor

The fight of the century finally concluded on Saturday night.

Floyd Mayweather improved to 50-0 with a 10th round TKO over Connor McGregor in a heated bout that had the entire sports community glued to their TVs.

Of course that includes NHLers, as many were clearly dialed in, providing commentary and their opinions on the historic fight.

Anthony Stewart noticed some similarities between the lucrative bout and a rather embarrassing Alexander Semin fight.

Wayne Simmonds clearly wasn't thrilled how the fight ended.

Meanwhile, several NHLers loved to see the respect Mayweather and McGregor showed for one another at the end of the 10-round bou

Stewart later channeled The Rock addressing those who believed the fight was stopped too soon.

Eric Gryba might be part of that camp, but he enjoyed the spectacle nonetheless.

As for Brent Burns and Joe Thornton, the San Jose Sharks duo got to take in the fight in person.

Evander Kane credited McGregor for making the fight worth watching.

Then there was Jason Demers, who was apparently entertained for a completely different reason.

Maple Leafs, Connor Brown agree to 3-year contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Connor Brown to a three-year contract extension worth $6.3 million, the team announced.

Brown, Toronto's last remaining restricted free agent, will therefore carry an average annual valuation of $2.1 million against the salary cap.

In his first full season with the Maple Leafs, Brown registered 20 goals (17 at even strength) and 16 assists, finishing fifth on the team in goals and eighth in points.

Brown will once again be a restricted free agent at the end of this new deal, per Cap Friendly.

The Maple Leafs now have 23 players under contract with less than a month to go until training camp.

Jets sign Matt Hendricks to 1-year deal

The Winnipeg Jets signed rugged winger Matt Hendricks to a one-year contract worth $700,000, the team announced Saturday.

Hendricks spent the past three-and-a-half seasons as a member of the Edmonton Oilers, proving to be proficient in the faceoff circle and on the penalty kill while recording 20 goals, 18 assists, and 245 penalty minutes in 214 games with the team.

Hendricks was not, however, able to crack the lineup during the Oilers' long-awaited return to the playoffs last season.

He will likely battle it out for a spot on Winnipeg's fourth line in training camp.

Penguins in trade talks for 3rd-line center, GM confirms

The Pittsburgh Penguins are actively looking for someone to play behind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

With Jay McClement - a training camp invite - and Carter Rowney as the most viable options on the depth chart below the superstar pair, general manager Jim Rutherford remains involved in trade talks for a third-line center, according to Jason Mackey of the Post-Gazette.

He won't, however, rush to make a move.

"We'll continue to work on it," Rutherford said. "There’s a few options there. We’ll see what happens here in the next little while. But, again, it’s what I said all along. If there’s somebody that we feel fits what we’re looking for, we’ll do it. If not, we’re going to wait until that time comes."

The Penguins have holes to fill at the position thanks to the departures of Matt Cullen (Minnesota) and Nick Bonino (Nashville) in free agency.

Penguins’ GM: McClement will be given good chance to make team

Jay McClement isn't being brought in to fill out the training camp roster.

The veteran center signed a tryout contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, and general manager Jim Rutherford expects McClement to be in the mix for the opening night lineup.

"He’s had good success killing penalties and winning faceoffs," Rutherford told the Post-Gazette's Jason Mackey. "With what we’re looking for in the way of depth at that position, he’s going to be given a good chance to make the team."

McClement is coming off a poor season with the Carolina Hurricanes where he averaged a career-low 11:23 of ice time, won only 48.2 percent of his faceoffs, and was a negative possession player with a Corsi rating of 45.36 during even strength play.

He was dealing with a knee issue, though, and believes he can help the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions.

"I’ve been feeling really good this summer physically," McClement said. "I got my body back. With the injury, it took a while to get my body back in balance. I’ve been feeling really good. For me, it’s finding that niche with some of the things that I’ve done over my career. Hopefully that can meld into a good team."

Rutherford added he looked at McClement's body of work as opposed to focusing on one season, saying "you hope that he has a good camp and shows what he’s done over his career."

The Penguins will play their first preseason game on Sept. 19.

9 names from the hockey world made for National Dog Day

Twitter has been consumed by good boys all day Saturday as part of #NationalDogDay, so that got us thinking: Who among hockey circles is most aptly named for the occasion?

From current players to NHL alumni, and even mascots, here are nine figures in hockey whose names or nicknames are perfect for this canine celebration:

Aleksander Barkov

The Florida Panthers forward is clearly the best current player on this list, and even though he has a very appropriate name for this social media holiday, he certainly doesn't dog it out on the ice.

Jay Beagle

The Washington Capitals center is another active player whose family name was made for the day.

He may not be the most offensively gifted forward in the league, but he does have a nose for the puck, and that helped him post career-highs in goals and assists this past season.

Lindy Ruff

The New York Rangers assistant coach's place in this exclusive group is pretty self-explanatory. Formerly the bench boss of the Buffalo Sabres and Dallas Stars, he's been known to be a little Ruff - err, rough - on his players in the past.

Cam Barker

The third overall pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2004 was a bust in North America, but at 31 years old he's still plying his trade in the KHL, where he's played for the last four seasons.

He won three gold medals with Canada - two at the World Junior Hockey Championships and one at the Spengler Cup - so fortunately for him, his inclusion on this list won't be his only claim to fame.

Curtis Joseph

The former star goaltender, who played most prominently for the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, and Toronto Maple Leafs, doesn't immediately appear to warrant inclusion here.

That is until you remember his nickname, "CuJo", which was obviously inspired by his first and last name, but which also invoked memories of the title antagonist from the Stephen King novel and 1983 horror film.

Joseph embraced the canine connection and featured a dog on many of his masks.

Ray Sheppard

Sure, it's not spelled exactly like the German shepherd his name conjures up in this context, but the longtime NHL winger's moniker is close enough.

Duane 'Dog' Sutter

A prominent member of the famed Sutter family, the three-time Stanley Cup champion earned his nickname because of his penchant for barking at opposing players and officials during games.

'Pup'

Brent Sutter was given this nickname because he was Duane's younger brother, but he carved out a solid career in his own right.

Brent played with Duane during the New York Islanders' heyday in the 1980s and later coached the Canadian world junior team to back-to-back gold medal victories in 2005 and 2006.

Harvey the Hound

We'd be remiss if we didn't include the Calgary Flames' mascot, who also got some love from his team's Twitter account earlier in the day.
