Wait, what?
As absolutely no one in their right mind suspected, the New Jersey Devils won the NHL Draft Lottery on Saturday night, with the Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars rounding out the top three.
Those ping pong balls. They're hard to predict.
Amid all the shock and awe, hockey Twitter was at an all-time high:
@NHL ok

NFC East killing it right here.

I'm loving everything about this lottery.

This year's NHL draft lottery will be known as the Fyre Festival draft in a lot of cities.

The biggest losers of the night were the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks, who were not rewarded in the slightest for occupying the bottom of the standings.

The Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks can't have nice things.

Imagine this happened last year? Toronto would be a puddle of tears. Can't imagine the vibe in Vancouver right now.

Big groans at #Canucks lottery party

Avalanche lose at lotteries too, will be picking 4th overall this summer.
— MHH (@MileHighHockey) April 30, 2017
OK, the Avalanche not winning the draft lottery after their season is kind of hilarious.
— Adam Vingan (@AdamVingan) April 30, 2017
Congratulations to the Avalanche on being the first team to ever be the NHL's worst by 20+ points and not even get a top three pick.
— Down Goes Brown (@DownGoesBrown) April 30, 2017
CoLOLorado, indeed.
— Greg Wyshynski (@wyshynski) April 30, 2017
Perhaps New Jersey had a helping hand in all of this ...
Officially adding "NHL lottery ball specialist" to my hockey resume.
— Taylor Hall (@hallsy09) April 30, 2017
So since Taylor Hall plays for the Devils, I suppose the Oilers are still a quasi-Draft Lottery dynasty?
— Adam Vingan (@AdamVingan) April 30, 2017
You do not mess with Taylor Hall's team at the draft lottery.
