Dubnyk makes Wild history with 3rd straight shutout

Devan Dubnyk made history Saturday night in the State of Hockey.

The Minnesota Wild netminder became the first in franchise history to record three consecutive shutouts with his 29-save performance versus the Dallas Stars.

Dubnyk stopped all 94 shots he faced in the last week as the Wild picked up wins over the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres in addition to Dallas. Now, he'll be looking to extend a franchise-record shutout streak when he makes his next start.

Dubnyk admitted he was thinking about a third consecutive clean sheet in the final seconds.

"That's probably the first time I got nervous at the end of a 4-0 game," he told Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

The Wild were out-shot almost 2-to-1 in the contest, but remain a perfect 4-0 at home thanks to their netminder.

Report: Islanders willing to trade Halak

New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow may have a resolution to the team's three-headed goalie situation.

After NHL agent Allan Walsh called out the Islanders for their handling of netminders Jaroslav Halak and Jean-Francois Berube - both represented by Walsh - the team has made it known they're willing to deal Halak, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The Islanders also have Thomas Greiss, meaning the team is carrying three goaltenders. There is simply not enough crease time to go around, with Greiss appearing in three games, Halak playing five, and Berube yet to take the ice.

The Islanders do not want to send Berube to the team's AHL affiliate in Bridgeport, as he would need to clear waivers and they're not confident that would happen, considering the number of goalie injuries league-wide.

One example is the Los Angeles Kings, who lost starter Jonathan Quick for three months due to a groin injury. Interestingly enough, the Islanders claimed Berube off waivers from the Kings last season.

Berube posted a 3-2-0 record and .914 save percentage with the Islanders in 2015-16.

Malkin’s 300th stands as game winner vs. Flyers

PHILADELPHIA - Evgeni Malkin scored twice, including the tiebreaker in the third period, and Sidney Crosby also had two goals to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.

Matt Cullen also scored for the Penguins, who scored three times in a 55-second span in the first period while opening a four-game road trip with their fourth win in the last five. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 38 shots while making his ninth straight start (6-2-1).

Malkin's game-winner was his 300th career goal.

Jakub Voracek scored twice for the Flyers, and Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds each had one for Philadelphia. Steve Mason started and gave up three goals on 13 shots in the first period. Michal Neuvirth replaced him to start the second and finished with 12 saves on 14 shots.

Matt Murray, who led the Penguins to the Stanley Cup last season, was available as Fleury's backup. Murray, recovering from a broken hand, hasn't played this season.

Malkin put the Penguins ahead for good at 8:33 of the third with his milestone goal. Olli Maatta threw the puck toward the net. It bounced off the leg of Philadelphia's Brandon Manning and to the back post, where a wide-open Malkin shot past Neuvirth.

Crosby, who missed the first six games due to a concussion, has four goals and five points in three games since returning.

Trailing 2-0, the Penguins scored three goals during an electrifying 55 seconds late in the first period.

Crosby beat Mason short side from a bad angle with a top shelf wrist shot with 4:16 left in the period. Forty-three seconds later, Crosby netted a power-play goal after one-timing a pass from Patric Hornqvist in the slot that whizzed by Mason. And Cullen ended the onslaught with a wraparound tally with 3:21 remaining.

The only other time Philadelphia allowed three goals in 55 seconds or less was Nov. 23, 1991, when the Devils tallied three in 42 seconds in the second period of a 5-5 tie.

Pittsburgh capitalized on a turnover by Sean Couturier to take a 4-2 lead on Malkin's goal midway through the second period.

The Flyers got back within one goal on Giroux's power-play tally with 6:44 remaining in the period. Radko Gudas made a stellar play to keep the puck in the offensive zone before Wayne Simmonds fed Giroux for a one-timer from the slot that beat Fleury on the glove side.

The play was upheld after a lengthy review to determine whether Philadelphia was offside on the play.

And the Flyers tied it 2:12 later on Voracek's penalty shot, which was awarded after the Flyers' right wing was pulled down by Brian Dumoulin on a breakaway attempt.

Rask, Bruins shut out Red Wings

DETROIT - Tuukka Rask made 23 saves for his 31st career shutout to lead the Boston Bruins to a 1-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.

Tim Schaller scored for the Bruins, who snapped a three-game losing streak and ended Detroit's six-game winning streak.

It was Rask's first game back after missing the previous three with a lower-body injury.

Jimmy Howard stopped 35 shots for the Red Wings, who lost at home for the first time.

Schaller scored with 2:11 left in the second period as his shot from along the goal line in the right corner went in off of Howard's left hip. It was Schaller's first goal of the season.

Senators will carry 3 goalies, allowing Anderson time to be with wife

The Ottawa Senators will carry three goalies on their roster, allowing Craig Anderson the flexibility to be with the team, but more importantly with his wife Nicholle, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

As for the immediate future, Anderson is in the process of rejoining Ottawa. Elliotte Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada's "Saturday Headlines" that Nicholle suggested Craig travel for Sunday's game in Edmonton with Andrew Hammond unavailable due to injury.

Hammond will be out at least a week with his groin problem. Chris Driedger and Matt O'Connor will be with the Senators until he's fit to return.

It's unknown if Anderson will start versus Edmonton.

Watch: Weber notches league-leading 3rd GWG vs. Leafs

Shea Weber is rapidly collecting game-winning goals.

A point-shot marker by the hulking blue-liner was the difference, as the Montreal Canadiens topped the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 on Saturday.

With the victory, the Habs improved to 8-0-1 and remain undefeated in regulation. The Maple Leafs' record fell to 2-3-3 through eight games.

Report: No ‘substantive changes’ to All-Star voting format

And with that, prepare your satirical write-in votes.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada's "Saturday Headlines" segment, that the NHL is not planning "substantive changes" to its All-Star voting process.

This means write-in candidates will remain welcome, leaving the potential for the next "John Scott" to play in this year's event in Los Angeles.

Scott became a cult hero when the long-time pugilist embraced an online campaign to have him attend last year's event in Nashville. And, sure enough, he was voted as the Pacific Division captain. But his status was cast in doubt - and incited widespread debate in hockey circles - when the Arizona Coyotes shipped him to the Montreal Canadiens, who then promptly buried him in the minor leagues.

The NHL made what proved to be the right decision by honoring the vote, as he went on to capture the MVP award for the three-on-three tournament and in the process helped attract attention that wouldn't have existed otherwise. But because it couldn't possibly turn out as well a second time, changes were expected to prevent it from happening again.

Granlund scores first of year on slick shorthanded deke

Mikael Granlund made sure his first goal of the season was one to remember.

Following a nifty setup by Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu Saturday, in which he side steps Dallas Stars defender John Klingberg, Granlund tucked the puck by goalie Kari Lehtonen. All that while down a man on the penalty kill.

Granlund and Koivu. Finnish chemistry, no doubt.

Watch: Gudas suddenly a force in the attacking zone

Radko Gudas' purpose is apparently greater than keeping the Department of Player Safety on its toes.

The Philadelphia Flyers bruiser performed a somewhat-surprising athletic sequence Saturday, preserving the zone three times in three seconds to create this Claude Giroux goal:

Coyotes’ Stone day to day with upper-body injury

Arizona Coyotes defenseman Michael Stone will not be in the lineup Saturday when his team takes on the Colorado Avalanche.

Coyotes coach Dave Tippett confirmed Stone suffered an upper-body injury Thursday versus the Philadelphia Flyers. Tippett classified the injury as day to day.

Stone missed the first three games of the season with a knee injury that carried over from last season. He underwent knee surgery this offseason to repair a ACL and MCL injury in his left knee.

Stone has tallied three points in four games this season.
