Tied 5-5 late in the third period, Oilers alumni Craig Simpson tripped Teemu Selanne, sending the beloved Jet to center ice for his second penalty shot of the game.
Of course, Selanne buried it, firing a quick wrister past Curtis Joseph.
The Finnish Flash racked up two goals and three assists in the win.
Sad news out of Montreal on Saturday as former Canadiens head coach Jacques Demers is back in hospital after suffering his second stroke in six months, according to multiple newsoutlets.
"I really got a bit emotional," Pacioretty said of the moment, according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels. "Jacques has always been around and always been so positive and always said the right thing, so it was really hard to hear the news (of his stroke in April). To see him in the tunnel and to see that he was moved and the reception that he got meant a lot to me."
The Blues' assistant general manager played seven games for St. Louis to conclude his career after more than 20 years with the New Jersey Devils.
Brodeur would play alongside Brett Hull, Al MacInnis, Bernie Federko, and Chris Pronger in the alumni game, for which the full rosters have yet to be announced.
The current Blues and Blackhawks will meet in the Winter Classic on Jan. 2.
After exiting Friday's contest following a hard collision with the goal post, Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk will miss "about a month," head coach Joel Quenneville announced.
The 25-year-old was reportedly seen wearing a sling on his arm, and the Blackhawks are calling it an upper-body injury.
Van Riemsdyk has suited up in only two of Chicago's five games so far this season, yet to find the scoresheet.
Winnipeg Jets legend Teemu Selanne was awarded a penalty shot during the first period of the Heritage Classic alumni game Saturday, and he did what he spent the majority of his NHL career doing: score.
Fake forehand, and then backhand shelf. Filthy. still.
"Last night, we got into a situation where we suspect that we're dealing with some food poisoning in Detroit," Predators general manager David Poile told The Tennessean's Adam Vingan.
"We've got a lot of guys that are sick right now. Everything was fine yesterday, and it all happened just before and then during the game and after the game and it's continuing today."
Poile added that he heard Friday's pregame meal was responsible for the virus that caught the players off guard.
"I didn't notice anything actually before the game," Predators defenseman Roman Josi said. "I think some guys felt a little weird before the game, but nobody was really throwing up yet. ... First, it was just one guy, and we were like, 'Oh, one guy's probably just sick,' but then there was more and more. Obviously, a tough situation."
"I've never seen anything like that or anything close to it, but ... these things happen a lot for teams during the season," P.K. Subban said. "I'm happy to know that it's happening to us right away rather than dealing with it later in the season. Hopefully, this is the last time we have to deal with something like this. But these things happen. It's just a matter of how you respond."
Amid the uncertainty of who might be available for Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Predators recalled a trio of players from their AHL affiliate in Milwaukee.
"I don't think some guys will be coming in," Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. "Some have shown up. I think we're trying to get a handle on it this morning here and move forward from there. I don't think that there's an exact plan right now. We'll have an exact plan at some point on what we're going to do, but right now it's a little unclear."
After Saturday's game, the Predators don't play again until embarking on a five-game western road trip that begins Wednesday in Anaheim.
"This could set some kind of hockey history," Reign head coach Mike Stothers said, according to Reign reporter Lindsay Czarnecki.
The start will be Imoo's first in the AHL. His father will have one of the best seats in the building, and it will undoubtedly be a night to remember for the family.
Starting goalie Jeff Zatkoff - who's got the job while Jonathan Quick is out - suffered a groin injury in practice Saturday, head coach Darryl Sutter confirmed.
Zatkoff is officially listed as questionable for the Kings' game against the Vancouver Canucks, and it appears Jack Campbell is on his way from the Ontario Reign to likely back up Peter Budaj.
Zatkoff had to be helped off the ice and there's no word on the severity of his injury, Rosen writes.
"There's nothing really you can do about it," Drew Doughty said of the Kings' bad luck in goal. "We just have to battle through it. If (Zatkoff) happens to be out with Quickie too, then we know Buds can play."
The Kings are off to a tough start, winning only one of four games, while the Canucks are a perfect 4-0.
Budaj has the Kings' only win, a 4-3 decision over Dallas in which he stopped 17 shots.
