Mark Jankowski's college career ended in double overtime Friday, as his Providence Friars lost to the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, and the 21-year-old will now be eyeing his first pro contract.
Jankowski was a first-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 2012, and general manager Brad Treliving is optimistic a deal will get done with the promising young forward.
"He's a young player who has taken considerable steps in the last four years," Treliving said, according to Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Herald. "We'd like to get him signed, and I'm confident we'll do that."
The Flames GM says the Hamilton, Ontario, native has gained around 30 pounds since being drafted, and his game has grown over the past four years as well. The center led the Friars in scoring this season with 15 goals and 25 assists in 38 games after winning an NCAA title in 2015.
Jankowski could choose not to sign with the Flames, and instead become an unrestricted free agent in August.
