VIDEO: Twisting Condon robs Richards with sensational desperation stop

MIke Condon has brought his best for the league's best.

The Montreal Canadiens netminder wisely kept with his momentum despite being caught turning in the wrong direction in order to deny Mike Richards of his second goal as a member of the Washington Capitals with an unorthodox, but absolutely brilliant blocker save.

VIDEO: Pastrnak the youngest player in Bruins history to score on penalty shot

Nineteen-year-old David Pastrnak made history Wednesday by becoming the youngest player in Boston Bruins history to score on a penalty shot.

The goal also marked the first-ever penalty-shot attempt by a Bruin against the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to PittsburghHockey.net, and contributed to another Bruins record:

The goal was Pastrnak's seventh of the season, and came by tapping the brakes and rifling a wrist shot past Marc-Andre Fleury.

Oilers trade Philip Larsen’s rights to Canucks for 5th-round pick

The Vancouver Canucks have completed a trade with another Western Canadian rival, sending a conditional 2017 fifth-round pick to the Edmonton Oilers for the rights of defenseman Philip Larsen.

Larsen, a former fifth-round selection with 125 games of NHL tread, has spent the last two seasons in the KHL after a 30-game stint (in which he netted 12 points) with Edmonton in 2013-14.

TSN's Bob McKenzie is reporting that the fifth-round pick could be elevated to a fourth-round selection should Larsen hit production thresholds.

The Oilers, who acquired Larsen in the Shawn Horcoff trade, extended the slight defenseman a qualifying offer before he bolted to Russia, thus retaining his rights.

The fifth-round pick used to land Larsen is the second 2017 draft selection that the rebuilding Canucks have parted with.

McKenzie also notes that Vancouver intends to sign Larsen before July 1, and have him join the team for next season.

Vancouver acquired Markus Granlund from the Calgary Flames on Monday in exchange for top prospect Hunter Shinkaruk.

Report: Flames 1 of 5 teams interested in WHL leading scorer Dryden Hunt

The Western Hockey League's leading scorer is an undrafted free agent who appears to have plenty of suitors, including the Calgary Flames.

Dryden Hunt, 20, who has recorded 49 goals and 50 assists in 61 games for the Moose Jaw Warriors, is drawing serious interest from at least five NHL teams, according to Darren Dreger of TSN.

The Flames are believed to be one of the clubs in hot pursuit of the Cranbrook, British Columbia native, with a decision coming possibly as early as next week.

Hunt has appeared in 258 WHL games over the past four years, totaling 108 goals and 124 assists for a 0.90 point-per-game average.

Lightning GM Yzerman would prefer to trade Drouin ‘sooner than later’

If Steve Yzerman gets his wish, Jonathan Drouin will not be a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning come the NHL's Feb. 29 trade deadline.

"I definitely prefer to deal him sooner than later, it would be better for everyone," the Lightning general manager told the Tampa Bay Times on Wednesday.

"A lot of things factor into it when making the trade, a lot of things to consider here. But number one is, 'Can I do something involving Jonathan that benefits the team that makes us better right now that helps us for the playoffs?' I'd certainly like to do that."

Yzerman has targeted an area of need as his team prepares for another playoff run.

"If I could do something to help our power play, I'd like to do that," he said. "And that's going to be difficult to do."

Why? Because the Lightning are close to the salary-cap ceiling, and Drouin's still on his cost-effective entry-level contract.

"It's not just our salary cap, it's the team that you're trying to make a deal with salary cap too," Yzerman said. "That's what everybody doesn't really understand. When trying to make a deal involving players and contracts, it's got to work for both teams. It's not just mine. It proves challenging for everyone."

Drouin, who made a trade request back in November, was suspended by the Lightning on Jan. 20 for failing to report for an AHL game.

While there's believed to be several teams around the league interested in acquiring the young forward, it remains to be seen whether a deal can be pulled off prior to 3 p.m. ET on Monday.

Report: Canucks ‘open for business’ with several players available on trade market

The Vancouver Canucks are ready and willing trade partners ahead of the NHL's Feb. 29 deadline.

The team has let it be known that Linden Vey, Matt Bartkowski, Ronalds Kenins, Adam Cracknell, Chris Higgins, Brandon Prust, and Yannick Weber are all available, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

Missing from the list are more prominent and attractive trade targets like Radim Vrbata and Dan Hamhuis, both of whom are set to become unrestricted free agents.

The Canucks sit well outside the Western Conference playoff picture with only two games remaining before the trade deadline, and appear to have resigned themselves to the role of sellers.
